Jobs' worth

Thursday February 16 2012

This week SIPTU President, Jack O'Connor tells us (Letters, February 14) that construction industry figures show "each €1bn invested in infrastructure, for example, would generate in the order of 10,000 jobs".

So, by writing a cheque for €1bn to Anglo, Mr Noonan has thrown away 10,000 jobs. Nice one, Mr Noonan!

It takes about four years to train in the computer games industry and I doubt that 10,000 jobs will be generated in that sector in four years. On the other hand, what about our leaky water pipes and the Metro North project? Anyone would think there was no work to be done!
