Jews will see the hypocrisy of Church asking us to forget sins
David Quinn (Irish Independent, May 5) quotes Dr Diarmuid Martin as saying there is a "culture of relentless(ly) reminding the Church of the sins of its members". But the same thing could be said of what the Catholic Church has done to the Jewish people over their sinful contribution to the death of Jesus Christ.
The Jews could argue in return that his death was a one-off sin that happened many years ago and needs to be placed in its own time.
The Jewish people must be wondering why the Catholic Church won't let go of that sad event even after almost two thousand years. They must wonder how this long-standing grievance is part of the bedrock on which the Catholic Church was founded.
