Issue of celibacy is key to unfolding scandals
CHILD sexual abuse is a problem that will raise its ugly head time and time again unless the Vatican addresses the fundamental issue of celibacy. A law whose only purpose was to protect Vatican property introduced by the Second Lateran Council in 1139 flies in the face of the greatest human endeavour -- our drive to reproduce.
It may not be the only cause but is a major contributory factor. Every living organism on this planet is here for one reason and one reason only -- be it for a day, a week or years -- and that is to reproduce.
For those priests who advocate change, the words of St Paul should form a solid foundation stone: "It is better to marry than to burn."
