Israel remains a beacon of hope
WITH due respect to the 150 artists who put their names to a call for a cultural boycott of Israel, I think it only fair that people should be reminded of the many positives that make that democratic country a unique beacon of hope in the Middle East.
Israel embodies democracy, rule of law, anti-racism, religious freedom, rights for women, rights for gays and rights for Arab and Muslim minorities. It oversees one of the most gender-integrated regimes in the world.
Where else in the Middle East would you find a democracy that had a female prime minister, a female chief justice, and a female foreign minister?
