Is staying sober too much to ask?

As a Christian, I will not be drinking alcohol on Good Friday and that's my choice.

Insofar as it is a "religious" decision, your non-religious correspondents have a point, namely that this choice should not be forced on them.

Yet there are only two days in the whole year when our thirsty population cannot buy alcohol -- Christmas Day and Good Friday. Evidently this is intolerable to some, even though there is nothing to stop them stocking up on booze the day before and drinking it at home.
