Irish Open should stay in Killarney

I AGREE with your golfing correspondent, Karl MacGinty, regarding the good sense of having golf's Irish Open return to the Killarney Golf and Fishing Club again next year ('Revitalised Irish Open must return to Killarney in 2011', Irish Independent, August 3).
However, rather than merely returning to the Killarney venue for next year, I believe it would greatly enhance the global standing and renown of the Irish Open championship if the good quality golf course and all-encompassing atmosphere of Killarney was made the tournament's permanent home.
The Irish Open would then join a distinguished group of top golf tournaments, which are each defined by their fidelity to a particular course. This group includes such events as the US Masters at Augusta National, the PGA Championship at Wentworth and the Scottish Open at Loch Lomond.
