Irish kept in dark over Hitler truth

Tom Cooper says that Eamon de Valera adhered to protocol when he called to the German embassy to express condolence on Hitler's death (Letters, November 3).

If this is so why did Dev not adhere to the same protocol when Roosevelt died two weeks earlier?

A representative of the Irish president, Douglas Hyde, called to the German embassy to express condolence and ask for arrangements to be made for him to attend Hitler's funeral.
