Irish democracy? That's a laugh

I looked up the word democracy in the dictionary.

Democracy (I am told) is a form of government under which power is derived from the people, either by direct referendum or by means of elected representatives. Importantly, all citizens have equal access to power.

Which makes me wonder, do we live in a democracy and, if so, did the people who frequented the Galway tent have more access to power?
