Inept handing of chaos is snow joke
While sitting at my desk in Dubai and, hopefully, flying to Dublin tomorrow morning (via Abu Dhabi) to be with my family at Christmas, I ponder the following: given the current recession and many contractors chasing up every work possibility, why did DAA not contact companies such as Ascon, SIAC, and so on, who have large fleets of 'idle' road construction plant and equipment that could have been employed to expedite clearing of runways, taxiways, aprons and other areas at Dublin Airport?
During the severe winter of 1991-1992 (some 19 years ago when the entire east coast closed down), I made the same suggestion to local authorities. It is quite obvious that successive governments and local authorities, including the DAA, think they know best -- in other words, wait till the fire is raging and burning out of control before trying to douse the fire with a single little bucket.
This situation is yet another example of the complete ineptitude of those the Irish people put their faith in to run the country, and mirrors the financial crisis.
