Inaccuracies on Irish war record

Stephen Fallon's response ('Irish kept in dark over Hitler truth', Letters, November 5) to my letter ('Dev was far from friend of Hitler', Letters, November 3) contains some serious inaccuracies, which merit response.

His assertion that no representative of the President called to the US embassy to express sympathy on the death of President Franklin D Roosevelt is incorrect.

Following Roosevelt's death, Eamon de Valera had arrangements made for a commemorative service to be held in the Pro-Cathedral in Dublin. The US ambassador, David Gray, refused to attend.
