I was always under the impression that a pension was a stipend you received on reaching your statutory retirement age after a lifetime of dedication.

Not so if you are a politician as you can collect a number of them at any time; not so if you are a banker; not so if you are an executive in a state organisation; not so if you are a so-and-so!
