In brief: Parnell . . . Faith . . . Politics as usual . . . Hair shirt
WHY on earth is the patriot Parnell not included in 'Ireland's Greatest'? His name is not even among the final five. Perversely, neither are those of Tone or Pearse. One despairs.
- David Quinn was right to declare that every "inch of the way, the miners and their families have been fortified by their own prayers and the prayers of millions upon millions of other people". (Irish Independent, October 15)
If religion and prayer helped to assuage the miners' terror in the midst of their ordeal, then Mr. Quinn must be commended for pointing out that reality. If the miners' religious faith saved their lives, then they are better off not being dead atheists.
