I'll be glad to see the back of Bertie
It was with a mixture of relief and disgust that I read the 'Bertie bails out' article (Irish Independent, December 31).
Firstly, I'm glad to see that the Teflon Taoiseach is slipping out of the Dail. As he slithers away we should reflect on his legacy and how much it will really cost us.
Mr Ahern has done untold damage to this country. He squandered the boom -- but perhaps worst of all is the damage he did to the nature of politics. He helped carry on the cronyism and corruption of Charles Haughey and with the Galway tent brought it to a new high.
