If we truly value the institution of marriage, it's time to let it evolve
• In his recent column (July 6), David Quinn refers to supporters of same-sex marriage as "liberals" no less than five times, in terms which are clearly intended to be sneering and dismissive.
Mr Quinn fails to see that same-sex marriage is not a simple liberal/ conservative issue. I, for one, am a proud Christian, firmly on the right of the political spectrum. Like Mr Quinn, I support the right to life of the unborn. I also support same-sex marriage. Would Mr Quinn call me a "liberal"?
He correctly points to the erosion of respect for the institution of marriage among Irish people. It is because I value marriage so much that I believe it should be enlarged and extended to same-sex couples, rather than hidden away like some kind of endangered species.
