I am not a union 'fat cat'
Sir -- I am writing to complain about an article (Sunday Independent, October 24, 2010) in which I was named. The article, which appeared in the business pages, was tagged as the "story of the week," and was headlined: "Union bosses getting slices of pie". It named me in the context of its claim to "reveal the union fat cats who have landed plum jobs".
I am not and have never been a paid employee of a trade union. I am not and have never been a "trade union boss".
I have been an ICTU nominee to the governing body of the Dublin Institute of Technology for the last 12 years. I receive no remuneration for this voluntary role, which involves monthly meetings that I attend in my own time. Nor do I receive remuneration for my membership of governing sub-committees, such as internal audit, property and strategy, and human resources.
