Humans, not God, saved Chilean miners
David Quinn does no service to God when he claims there were no atheists in the Chilean mine (Irish Independent, October 15). He exploits the meaning of God for his own misplaced interests.
The rescue was due to human ingenuity, which ultimately reflects the ingenuity of God. To claim the miners' prayers were the primary cause of their rescue is to exploit the true meaning of God. The solidarity of human beings caused this magnificent achievement, on a par with landing man on the moon.
While the miners and their families clung in desperation to every vestige of hope, including their religious beliefs, the ingenuity of human beings is the true victor and in turn it reflects the glory of god.
