HSE is precursor to private care
I, for one, have long since concluded that the HSE was not created to provide a healthcare service that all citizens can access equally but rather to slash the public system so as to make way for private involvement. Nothing that appeared in your report on the HSE "service" plan for 2010 (Irish Independent, January 14), which outlined more cuts mayhem and misery for us unfortunates, has altered that view one iota.
Having said that, is there any chance that the HSE would address a couple of points that came to mind while reading the report?
Why, given the proposed wholesale closure of wards and beds in the public system, is there no mention of closing the National Treatment Purchase Fund which would save at least €100m instantly?
