• Having recently retired after almost 40 years in the classroom, I have to say how much I enjoyed Mr Brendan Howlin's recent marvellous, unheralded entry onto the comedy circuit. Who knew we had a man of such talent as a minister?
Mr Howlin's hilarious dig at his leader's (in)famous reference to 'Labour's way or Frankfurt's way' by ingenuously using 1940s Nazi language – "People must be moved aside", "Re-educate them", "Discipline them" – had me shaking with tears of laughter.
His brilliant use of irony to have a go at his colleagues in his beloved Chamber by referring to people "not up to the job" and "promoted beyond their capabilities" was pure Del Boy.
