How can Gilmore take a false oath to God?

DURING the election campaign, it was revealed that Eamon Gilmore, now the Tanaiste, is an atheist.

As he is also automatically a member of the Council of State, how is Mr Gilmore going to swear the declaration as set out in the Constitution: “In the presence of Almighty God, I do solemnly and sincerely promise and declare that I will faithfully and conscientiously fulfil my duties as a member of the Council of State.” Will he be discriminated against because of his lack of religious belief or is lying OK?
