House building in SA is great work
S Corr (Letters, November 18) criticises the splendid work done in the Western Cape, South Africa, by the volunteers of the Niall Mellon Trust.
It would seem to me that he is ignorant of conditions in South Africa. The government's housing programme is completely inadequate and unable to keep up with the demand for houses by unfortunate people living in shack -- euphemistically called 'informal' -- settlements.
The houses built by the Irish volunteers have solid foundations, walls plastered inside and out, ceilings and proper plumbing.
