Hoodie horrors on the motorway bridge
Tuesday April 03 2007
As I was passing a bridge on the M11 at 120kph recently, I noticed a gang of six or seven hoodies standing in the middle of it. They were in a group, looking down at the motorway. I was never so happy to get past a bridge in my life. A work colleague had a brick dropped on the windscreen of his car in Liffey Valley some years ago, in identical circumstances. Luckily, he was able to control the car, after some frantic zig-zagging at speed. I thought that loitering was supposed to be illegal? The consequences of such a thing happening do not bear thinking about. ANTHONY HALPIN, BRAY, CO WICKLOW * When over in Ireland for a brief holiday a couple of weeks ago we saw an article by Marese McDonagh about the failings in road signs. From our experience we would strongly echo Marese's comments. Time and time again we came to junctions, both in the countryside and the towns, where there was no longer any reference to the destination that we had been happily following for the previous few miles. It was very frustrating and certainly detracted from the enjoyment of our holiday. PETER CARTMELL, HERTFORDSHIRE * So, Frank McNamara, the well known musician, is joining the Progressive Democrats because, he says, he "wants to give something back". Well, maybe he has chosen the wrong party, because the former PD leader and current Minister for Health Mary Harney doesn't want to give anything back. Not even the money that the Government took illegally from thousands of elderly patients in the country's nursing homes. MARTIN HENEGHAN, RICHMOND ROAD, DUBLIN 3
