Home thoughts

•I left Ireland when I was 20 years of age and returned 49 years later as I turned 70. I returned to Ireland because I loved several aspects of the culture -- the theatre, sports, conversation, scenery, people, and values.

I have now been "home" five years, long enough to make the following observations. The arrogance of power that I have witnessed in the mass media, the educational system, the politicians, and the labour unions is second to none.

Humility, common decency, good manners, and respect for others is slowly becoming non-existent. There is a culture in all of these institutions can only be described as arrogance without bounds.
