•The content of the "Home thoughts" correspondence (Letters, October 17) on the ongoing mortgage time bomb again highlights Ireland's obsession with owning property.
It is that unquestioned obsession that has caused the massive problems we have now, and trying to absolve the borrower of blame in this equation is tantamount to delusion.
It takes two parties to make a deal and irresponsible borrowing is just as dangerous as irresponsible lending. Can they not see that property ownership is nothing but a "legal construction" and that they have signed over the best part of their lives to private banks just to be like the Joneses next door?
