History pages full of self-deceivers

Nobody told Bertie about the banks. Not to worry. He joins a long list. Nobody told the Vatican about clerical child abuse. Nobody told Nixon about Watergate. Nobody told the captain of the Titanic about the floating icebergs. Nobody told Bush and Blair that there were no weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. Nobody told de Valera that Collins was going to sign the Treaty.
The pages of history are full of self-deception and delusion. It is now regarded as a psychological condition. Bertie in his retirement has plenty of time to rectify it on the therapist's couch. He should get out of the kitchen cabinet more often and stretch his legs, as clearly the cramped conditions are affecting the blood flow to his brain.
