History blurred by McGuinness

Sir -- Martin McGuinness is rewriting history when he says "the people of Ireland burned down the British Embassy" in Dublin.

I was outside the British Embassy on that fateful day. The vast majority of the people there were on a peaceful protest over the deaths in Derry.

We had not come to burn the embassy. Our inspiration was the civil rights movement. Our inspiration was John Hume and the People's Democracy movement, which in turn was inspired by Martin Luther King.
