Hibernate in Hibernia

• In your newspaper (Irish Independent, October 26), both of your columnists, Kevin Myers and Ian O'Doherty, made reference to the onset of winter in their respective pieces.

However, Ian presented a sliver of hope, when he hinted at a means of escaping the worst of winter's woes -- hibernation.

It has often occurred to me that the Latin name for Ireland, Hibernia, has the same root as the word hibernate. Ergo, maybe this is what we are supposed to do, after all. In fact, the prospect of a scarefest-free Halloween, rip-off-shopping-spree-free Christmas, and bonhomie-free New Year suddenly has huge appeal.
