Heavy lifting

• I have become very frustrated over the past few days about an issue that is affecting my 12-year-old daughter daily. It is the much-debated subject of school bags and specifically their weight.

My daughter has just started secondary school and needs more books and copies. I do realise this is the way it is, but after seeing my child struggle with a huge bag for a few weeks, I decided to weigh it. Over the course of two weeks, the weight fluctuated between 19lb and 23lb depending on what classes she had. Averaging out over nine days, it was 22lb or 9.98kg.

Kira comes home from school each day complaining about a sore back and legs. I think this is unacceptable in the 21st century.
