Hawking is not looking for God
FRANK O'Connor (Letters, September 10) seems to miss the point completely when he says that Stephen Hawking should abandon his search for God in outer space. Professor Hawking was never looking for God in the first place.
His point was that we have reached an understanding of the beginning of the universe, such that any "creator" would be redundant.
If Mr O'Connor wants to continue employing a creator where none is required, then that is up to him.
