Harris wrong on Dresden bombs

Madam -- I have long admired and respected your correspondent Eoghan Harris, not least for his forthrightness and facility for questioning and exposing the dubious sacrality of sacred cows in the context of narrow Catholic Nationalist/ Republicanism.
However, I read his article on the bombing of Dresden (Sunday Independent, February 12, 2012) with increasing disappointment and unease.
The moral issue at stake is whether area versus strategic bombing was justifiable. In my view area bombing was not justified given all the known facts at the time. If this is true, it follows that Mr Harris's conclusion is invalid and the route by which he arrived at his preferred position, I suggest, is highly questionable.
