Greed merchants are ruining rugby

While we all know what to expect from Fianna Fail when there's a choice to be made and money is involved, it was sad to read your report (Irish Independent, June 3) that both Fine Gael and Labour have waded in on the side of the IRFU over those who cannot afford to buy into, or who refuse to bankroll, Rupert Murdoch's growing monopoly over televised sport.

What is forgotten is that sport not only offers individuals an opportunity to express themselves and their talents but also gives the not so talented the chance to be involved by watching.

Sport is a key factor in creating a cohesive society.
