Government just ignores solutions
Sir -- Your series of articles, 2010 The Year All The Bullshit Must Stop, (Sunday Independent, January 10, 2010), was brilliant.
Three of the most successful business people in the State giving practical advice and proposing active measures to stimulate the economy and get employment going again. And it was a great read. It is, however, also deeply frustrating because the Government just doesn't seem to listen. Not just to these men, but to anyone who comes up with practical solutions. There is always a series of bullshit excuses to do nothing.
Brian Lenihan has, it is widely viewed, taken the measures necessary to stem the tide. Now why not take the next step? Mary Coughlan clearly does not know what to do to get enterprise going again. There is not necessarily anything wrong with that. Ask Sean Quinn, Ben Dunne or Ulick McEvaddy if they know how to do everything in their business and I'll bet they will admit they do not. They will also say that one of the tricks is to employ people who know more about certain aspects than they do. So, a suggestion: Mary Coughlan should ask these three men to head a business and job creation task force.
