Katherine Donnelly writes of Education Minister Richard Bruton's "carrot-and-stick" method of addressing burgeoning school expenses (Irish Independent, April 18).

The Education Minister's approach in attempting to keep a lid on the bread-and-butter costs of uniforms, PE gear, books and technology for parents is to be welcomed.

I teach in a DEIS school, where the Louth and Meath Education and Training Board subsidised the cost of tablets for our LCA students and teachers some years ago.
