Gone for chips
• Even the final stage of the e-voting machine scandal was farcical, with the Department of the Environment preventing the company contracted to rid us of these Pandora's Boxes from auctioning a number of the machines for charity.
Thankfully, the contractor showed what very few involved in this debacle have demonstrated -- common sense, honesty and human decency -- and made a donation of €10,000 to Barretstown. But the department will retain four machines "for research purposes".
"The four we have will retain the chips," says the department, unwittingly prompting a rather obvious response -- "Yes, and the Cullen-Ahern-Dempsey syndicate (or CADs for short) bet €53.9m of the nation's chips on this no-hoper!"
