Get out of Ireland as fast as possible

Here is some advice for Carol ('Today, I am getting ready to emigrate', Letters, August 7) from someone who immigrated to Canada 30 years ago -- get to an airport as soon as you can and get out of there (Canada is a highly recommended destination).
Yes, you will be homesick at times, and, yes, it may be tough for the first year, but never once will you regret your decision. Keep in mind that 90pc of emigrants don't go back to Ireland -- there's a message in that.
And as for Alan's response: he contends that the best stayed in Ireland and that "the best, Carol, actually stayed, used their talents and worked hard to create a better future for us all".
