'Gerry' tribute was just a hurried mess
I WATCHED RTE's tribute (or was it a tribute?) to Gerry Ryan -- the aptly titled 'Gerry' -- with an increasing sense that this was a series of testimonials strung together. At the end of it all, I was little wiser about the man himself. If this was meant to be a documentary of any depth, then it failed.
To be blunt, what we got was people saying the nice things that people always say about the departed. I am sure that they were true, but again that amounts to an extended eulogy.
What seemed to garner practically no discussion was Ryan's cocaine habit. The debate about this so far could be described as unhealthy.
