George Byrne's frank criticism set The Thrills on the right path
As an enthusiastic 16-year-old, I once answered an ad in 'Hotpress'.
It called for music submissions - the prize was a meeting with a panel of industry experts for advice and feedback.
In the excitement of being selected, I misunderstood and proceeded to arrive on the day with the band and instruments in tow. The late George Byrne - who went on to become the 'Herald's' film critic -was on the panel and was not impressed.
