DK HENDERSON (December 24) writes from Clontarf to say that our children should stop learning Irish to claw back time lost on other subjects due to the harsh weather.

He claims that the children are only going to be emigration fodder anyway. I disagree. Irish can be a useful language. For example, it can teach us that such a letter from Clontarf -- Cluain Tarbh -- may have about it a whiff of 'bull'.
