Gadaffi death was expedient

Sir -- If it turns out that Gadaffi was murdered whilst in custody, it does not augur well for the new Libya. Few if any would have any sympathy for Gadaffi, but if we deal with tyrants as they have dealt with us, do we not thereby descend to their level, and behave just like the guys whose behaviour we deplore?
Do I detect a possible Western involvement in, or perhaps tacit agreement with, the summary justice which appears to have been dealt to the colonel? Maybe the worst nightmare for the West would have been a Gadaffi sitting in the Hague letting a cluster of cats out of numerous bags. The temptation to solve this problem with a bullet could well have been overwhelming.
