Frieda's friends and colleagues
Sir - Dan O'Brien only gave half of the story when he used Frieda to explain debt relief (July 12). He left out Frieda and Alexis's shared past.
Mr O'Brien's German friend Frieda was actually a business colleague of Claude from France, Alexis from Greece and Paddy, Miguel and Benito too, and others who all had an equal share in the business they ran together having taken over from their parents.
But Frieda and Claude got into a big mess when their departments broke the terms of the partnership agreement and one of their suppliers gave them inferior material that lost the business a number of large accounts. But the partners considered they were all friends and colleagues and listened to their excuses. They agreed to help Frieda and Claude and to change the rules of the partnership so that Frieda and Claude could not be held to account for the failures in their departments. The cost of their mistakes was shared among the different sections of the business.
