French farce
I feel the fans at the rugby farce in France were treated with contempt by whichever authority was responsible for calling off the match by the manner in which they did.
The safety of players and fans hs to be top priority but the kick-off time or date should have been changed in advance -- it's not like the bad weather took everyone by surprise.
How much money has this fiasco cost fans?
If the match was called off earlier I would have no argument -- I took a chance, knowing the weather was bad, to go for the weekend.
However, to allow the crowd to assemble in the stadium and then leave them sitting there in anticipation with no announcement while they receive messages from TV viewers at home, telling them it was off, is the height of disrespect.
It seems to me that, having paid all the costs of policing, security, food, etc, the authorities gambled on the game going ahead.
I have attended 51 consecutive Ireland Six Nations games since 2001: that is every game, every year, home and away. The sequence was only broken because Foot and Mouth caused the fixtures to be pushed back to September, when I was touring Australia.
I am lucky I have a good job and could afford to go to the re-fixture but on a matter of principle I intend to break the sequence, as I feel all travelling fans were shown how much they are truly valued.
My protest may have little impact on the commercials of the modern game but it is the only form of protest available to me.

Once again we have a chance to see French arrogance and ineptitude in action. This time for a rugby game staged at a time to suit French television audiences. Imagine the comments in their media if this happened in Ireland!
