France right on abhorrent burqa

In response to Mary Kenny's article (Irish Independent, July 19), the burqa is not a religious issue, nor an Islamic requirement.

The issue is the dignity and civil rights of women, and all human beings. It is imposed in tribal, fundamentalist societies.

It is never a free choice, but the result of conditioning and powerful social pressure.
