Fox hunting is a barbaric 'sport'
I READ with horror and disbelief Catriona Murphy's article 'Why I'll never give up fox hunting' (Weekend Review, Irish Independent, July 3). I have never read such utter nonsense.
There was no concrete argument as to why this cruel, pointless, evil, horrific and barbaric 'sport' should continue.
"It's the adrenalin that does it for me," she wrote.
So having bloodthirsty dogs chase a wild animal for hours on end in the name of 'sport' is Catriona's idea of an adrenalin rush, is it?
At no point do you mention drag hunting. Would that not provide the same adrenalin rush?
As for "those people who rant and rave about fox, stag and hare coursing" who "are the very same people who go home to a steak in the evening", as an animal lover, nature lover, horse enthusiast and vegetarian, I have no problem with someone tucking into a steak, if they so wish.
But killing an animal for sport and killing an animal for food are totally different. Her argument has no logic and no reason. There is no place in today's society for blood sports.
