Former terrorist can't be President

Sir -- I totally agree with Minister Phil Hogan when he states we cannot have a former terrorist as our President.
Mr McGuinness was a member of Sinn Fein/IRA, an organisation that murdered 1,800 people over a 30-year period -- 644 innocent civilians many of whom were children.
Sinn Fein/IRA compares McGuinness to de Valera, Lemass and Collins, but there is absolutely no comparison. Eamon de Valera, as I understand it, fired one shot from Boland mills; Sean Lemass is reported to have shot one special branch officer; and I have never heard or read that Michael Collins killed anyone. These men never killed innocent civilians or planted car bombs whereby innocent people would be killed and maimed. Their targets were all military personnel, and as elected representatives they had a mandate from the Irish people at that time. I am sure these men turned in their grave at the atrocities the IRA has carried out over the years.
