Former bankers have little to fear
Sir -- 'Former Italian bank governor is jailed' was the headline that caught my eye on a four-line story on page 18 of this newspaper (Sunday Independent, May 29, 2011). Pity it wasn't highlighted on page 1, where it might have caught the eye of those investigators who are dilly-dallying over our banking scandal here.
Former Italian central bank governor Antonio Fazio was sentenced to four years in jail and fined €1.5m for market-rigging in a 2005 takeover battle of an Italian bank.
Will any of our recalcitrant bankers here go to jail for the much more serious offence of bankrupting our country?
