Forget Africa, whatever happened to charity begins at home?

While we are being bombarded with the usual appeals to yet again help the starving in Africa, the latest surveys show that some Irish families have only about €20 left in their kitty after paying their bills.

Isn't it ironic that the welfare charities are looking for "just €25 per month" to feed and clothe people -- and I would add: arm them up with the latest weaponry, buy someone's 25th wife a new Mercedes, etc.

We are being taxed to death at home and then should give our last few quid to organisations that have no proof of success in helping Africa to sort itself out?
