Foreign welfare costs money

Sir -- I wish to take issue with Michelle Hoctor when she states (Sunday Independent, Dec 12, 2010) that very few people from outside the EU are in receipt of social welfare here. She only needs to take herself to any health centre or social welfare office.
There is one particular centre in Dublin that seems to cater exclusively for non-EU nationals. It doesn't take a rocket scientists to figure out that this costs the state money, money that could surely be put to better use. In conclusion, I'd like to point out to Ms Hoctor and her Minister O Cuiv that this country is not the social services for the Third World. In a nutshell, we owe these people nothing.
