IVAN Yates says the Labour Party should expect the next Minister for Finance, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Irish EU Commissioner to come from within its ranks (Irish Independent, February 28).
In other words, he thinks that Labour should not only dominate the formulation of economic and budgetary policy for the next five years, but that it should also control the presentation of these policies to Europe and the wider world.
The 800,000 people who voted for Fine Gael last week will quite rightly greet this suggestion with howls of derision.
