Farmers' chance to break the ice

I've been listening with disbelief to politicians, from ministers to local councillors, arguing over the lamentable state of our frozen roads.
Apart from their enthusiastic participation in the continual blame game, I haven't heard a single solution proffered.
As the problem of gritting/salting main arterial routes seems to exhaust our resources, secondary roads are abandoned as being beyond assistance.
