I wish to reply to the opinions of Brendan Corrigan (Letters, October 9) where he gave his rather right- wing views on child benefit being means-tested.

I have to say that I found Mr Corrigan's views quite worrying. It is obvious to me that he lacks any insight into the world of bringing up children in this State.

Far from being someone who "plays the system", as he puts it, I am the father of five children under the age of 12 and find myself these days in the frightful position of wondering where I am going to get the means to put basic rations on the table.
