Exercise key to obesity -- so blame fathers

WITH regard to Kevin Myers's piece on childhood obesity (Irish Independent, April 19), a University of Ulster study in 2004 found lack of exercise was the main cause of child obesity and that children actually ate less fat and fewer calories in their diet than they did even 10 years ago.
This disproves Mr Myers's theory that it's sugary and fatty meals provided by "hyper-busy" mothers that are responsible for the obesity epidemic.
In families where the mother is responsible for providing meals, surely it is the tradition that the father would be charged with bringing the child to sporting activities?
